India is lucky to have a cricketer like Sachin, says Mohinder Amarnath – Cricket News Update

Former Indian cricketer, Mohinder Amarnath, was all praise for the iconic Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, after the latter notched up his historic hundredth international ton on Friday, March 16, 2012.

The 61-year-old former India all-rounder said that the Indian cricket was very lucky to have a player of Sachin’s stature who earned the country a good name at numerous occasions during his 23-year-long cricketing career.

Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary India batsman who will turn 39 next month, scored his elusive hundredth international century in an Asia Cup league match against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Amarnath, who was the part of the 1983 world cup winning team under Kapil Dev, termed it as a great achievement for the little batting maestro.

"It's a great achievement by Tendulkar and a very very special day for Indian cricket. India is lucky to have a cricketer like Sachin," said the former India all-rounder who played 69 Tests and 85 One Day Internationals for India.

Amarnath, also a member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s selection panel, hailed Tendulkar's dedication and contribution to the game.

"His passion, determination and dedication to the game is admirable. It's not easy to have played for 23 years at the international level in these times," said the former Punjab all-rounder.

Asked if the record of hundred international centuries set by the Master Blaster can ever be broken, the Indian all-rounder said that though records are meant to be broken, it will not be easy for anyone to come even near this mammoth record.

Meanwhile, former England captain Nasser Hussain also hailed the Indian batting prodigy for reaching the milestone after a one-year century drought.

"Sir Donald Bradman was great but for me the greatest batsman to have ever played the game is Sachin Tendulkar," said the former England and Essex opener.

Sachin Tendulkar debuted for India in November 1989 and has to date featured in 188 Tests and 462 One Day Internationals. His tallies of 15470 Test and 18374 ODI runs are the maximum by any cricketer till date. He has scored 51 centuries in Test cricket while 49 have been scored in the One-Day format of the game.
