The prolific defender assures the fans of hard work in the UEFA Champions League return leg against Real Madrid and reflected his views on the home draw.
CSKA Moscow defender, Sergei Ignashevich, has hailed his team’s performance after drawing the UEFA Champions League first leg 1-1 against Real Madrid at Luzhniki stadium.
The fact that CSKA managed to stop the Spanish outfit’s European winning run pleases the defender, who believes that a similar performance can bear huge dividends in the return leg.
Aside from a decent European campaign, Los Blancos are enjoying a decent league run, having moved 10 pints clear of the second placed Barcelona the top.
Ignashevich revealed that the Madrid-based club are a great side to play against and admitted to the difficulty stopping their frequent attacks. He praised the defensive work of his team to cope up with the pressure playing against
the European giants.
“I believe that things have not gone our way, according to our pre-match planning. We were not the best team during the first half and lost the ball more often than usual.
“We will try to be our best and give them a tough time. I hope they all have a good idea what CSKA are capable of. We will repeat our European performance against Sevilla FC.
“I am proud of my team that has stopped a stern opposition to win in Russia. Hopefully we have pleased the fans as well.” The Russian Super Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The Koni stopper revealed that the Spanish outfit, which has scored 19 goals in 6 group stage matches, played the second half defensively because they wanted to claim all three points against the Moscow-based club.
Ignashevich, meanwhile, admitted that Real succeeded in their mission to claim a point in Russia. He revealed that the Armeytsy now have a mountain to climb in the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The former Lokomotiv Moscow player assured the fans that they will enter the pitch with confidence despite the opposition’s home advantage.
