IPL 5: Sachin Tendulkar all praise for the young batsmen in Mumbai Indians – Cricket News Update
India’s batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar who is playing for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), has praised the young guns in the team, who helped the side grab a sensational win against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday, at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.
Commending the strong performances from Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu and Robin Peterson, the 39-year-old batsman said, “(The boys were) fabulous. We sort of made the foundation. But ideally we should have more runs on the board in the first six overs. The good thing was that we did not lose wickets upfront. Later, Rohit Sharma was charged up. Rayudu and Peterson were amazing."
It was Sachin’s second game since coming back from injury, which sidelined him after Mumbai’s first game in which the he got injured.
Mumbai Indians are still not among the top teams of the tournament this year, as they have secured four wins from seven games and need to better their standing by grabbing maximum points from the upcoming fixtures.
In their clash against Punjab, Mumbai left Kings XI fans flabbergasted as they chased down an intimidating tally of 169 runs, needed to win the game, with the help of some astounding batting from Sharma, who bolstering a dominating innings of 50 runs that included three sixes and three boundaries.
Later, the game turned interesting when Mumbai lost six wickets and Punjab were seeking to restrict the side from reaching the target with the main batsmen back in the pavilion, but Rayudu and Peterson steadfast as they defied Punjab bowlers and stayed unbeaten on 34 and 16 runs to take their side across the finish line on the penultimate delivery of the match.
Had the two batsmen lost their wickets at that crucial time, Punjab might have won the game later.
Meanwhile, Sachin crafted an innings of 34 runs off 29 deliveries as he showed signs of his form returning.
Rayudu, who was named as the Player of the Match, praised Tendulkar for helping him in his batting which improved his performance against Punjab.
