Hussey prefers Dravid over Tendulkar – Cricket News Update
Elaborating on his favourite Indian cricketer from the Modern era, Aussie batsman Michael Hussey claimed that while Sachin Tendulkar was a brilliant player, he admired Rahul Dravid more.
“(Sachin) Tendulkar, too, is a great player but I like Dravid the most for the way he approaches the game,” Hussey admitted. “It's his guts, determination and never-say-die attitude that makes him stand out.”
“He had done it for years, scored runs everywhere he played, and he is such a humble human being. It will be very, very hard for India [to find a replacement]. Let me tell you, it won't happen in a hurry.”
However, the 36-year-old was optimistic about the future of Indian cricket, pointing out that Indian selectors had a wealth of talent to choose from among the new emerging players.
“Virat (Kohli) has proved that he is a world-class performer,” Hussey pointed out, referring to the fiery 23-year-old vice-captain. “Then there are the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Cheteshwar Pujara. There are many more and the kind of following
that India have for the game, they will always discover new players.”
Dravid announced his formal retirement from international cricket earlier this year, and his celebrated career drew praise from all quarters. The veteran batsman is currently captaining the Rajasthan Royals team in the ongoing 5th edition of the
Indian Premier League, but the team is at number 7 on the tournament points table, despite having had a decent start.
The Aussie batsman himself has joined the Chennai Super Kings after rounding up a successful tour of the West Indies, which saw the Aussies securing a 2-0 Test victory over their Caribbean hosts. He has featured in only one match so far – a lost encounter
with the Kolkata Knight Riders, which saw him contributing 18 runs to his team’s total of 139. Having won only 4 off the 10 matches they have played so far, the Super Kings, who have been IPL champions twice, are currently at number 5 on the points table.
Having recently arrived in India, and in the process of acclimatizing himself to the conditions, Hussey will be joining his team for their next match, scheduled to take place against the Deccan Chargers today on May 4 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk,
