Houston Astros new GM Jeff Luhnow makes his first trade with confidence – MLB News

The Houston Astros newly appointed general manager Jeff Luhnow has made a very good start regarding his new role in the franchise to do some quick trades for strengthening the roster in order to show a good beginning next season.

Luhnow seems very active this offseason and making some deals that have been commended by many. After holding the new office in the Astros’ management, he has recently sent right-hander reliever Mark Melancon to the Boston Red Sox for shortstop Jed Lowrie and pitcher Kyle Weiland.

According to some baseball experts, this deal is certainly going to benefit the Astros in the long run. While Jeff Luhnow himself claimed that he almost has full confidence on this deal and the fans and the concern people for the Astros will know the huge benefit of this trade.

He told the media that Lowrie and Weiland are the two most talented players in the league who were very consistent in the last season and proved their worth. On the other hand trading a well established player like Mark Melancon, the new GM Luhnow stated that he personally feels happy and not thinking anything negative regarding the team trading him. He also commented that, to achieve certain amount of success if someone has to lose something and especially for good then this is totally ethical and a nice thing to do.

Regarding the Astros recent trade in which they acquired Lowrie and Wieland, both are looking very confident to start a fresh beginning with their new franchise.

On Thursday, Lowrie has said, “I know I can hit from the left side, I’ve had a couple unlucky injuries that have really affected my left-handed swing. I know I’m a quality hitter from both sides of the plate. I’m going to do the work necessary to get myself ready to be what I believe to be a .300 hitter on both sides of the plate.”

Meanwhile, the experts are stating that the 2012 Major League season will be a very competitive one for several reasons. Many teams have already traded and added some new players and those teams, who have yet to make things final are looking confident to make the most from the free agency market.
