Harbhajan Singh terms Mumbai Indians win as a great achievement – Cricket News Update

In a shocking finale to the Champions League (CL) Twenty20 (T20) competition, the Mumbai Indians stunned the Chennai audience after defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore with 31 runs, earning the tournament title to their name, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, in Chennai, on October 9, 2011.

As for the proud Mumbai Indians stand-in Captain, Harbhajan Singh, the player ranked his team’s success as a great achievement, especially in the absence of star players, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Munaf Patel.

During the final game’s post-match presentation ceremony, Harbhajan said, “Not many people gave us a chance at the start of the tournament. If we can achieve so much without having players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Munaf Patel, just think about what we can do if we have them.”

The Mumbai Indians kicked off their CLT20 journey with their opening, Group A, league match against the Chennai Super Kings and in a nail-biting conclusion to the bout, the Mumbai outfit managed to secure its first win on the competition, after defeating the opponents with 3 wickets.

On September 26, 2011, the side then went against the Caribbean squad, Trinidad & Tobago, and in a similar manner, the team marked another last ball triumph, with just a single wicket remaining.

However, for the team’s remaining two games, things did not go as planned; after the Mumbai Indians remained without a win, including an indecisive conclusion to their match against the Cape Cobras, followed by their first defeat on the tournament, at the hands of New South Wales, on October 2, 2011.

As for their recent, semi-final outing, in a thrilling match, Mumbai Indians earned their ticket to the tournament finale, after defeating Somerset with 10 runs.

During his comments, Harbhajan also comprehended that in order to dominate the opponents, his side’s aim was to eliminate Bangalore’s menacing top-order, built on Chris Gayle, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Virat Kohli – and having achieved that, the task came easy for the Mumbai bowlers, who finally restricted the side to fall 31 runs off the chase.

“We wanted to give our best shot. The body language of the boys was great and by the grace of God we got the desired result,” said Harbhajan.
