Guido Buchwald compares Takashi Usami to Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben - Bundesliga news
Former VfB Stuttgart defender, Guido Buchwald, has voiced his admiration towards reported Bayern Munich target, Takashi Usami. He stated that the youngster has immense potential to play at the highest level and also compared him to the Bavarians, Arjen Robben
and Franck Ribery.
Takashi Usami currently plays for Japanese side, Gamba Osaka, and is a member of the national Under-22 side. The youngster has caught the attention of many of the top European clubs and if reports are to be believed, Bayern Munich are leading the race to
acquire his signature.
Buchwald claimed that Usami is one of the best talents in Japan at the moment and that the player has immense potential to become a great player. He insisted that the midfielder is similar to the likes of Robben and Ribery and with a bit of experience, he
could reach a whole new level.
“Usami is one of the biggest talents around in Japan. He has a similar player as Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, although he obviously is not of the same level just yet,” the former Urawa Red Diamonds’ player was quoted as saying.
The German also revealed that Bayern had inquired about the midfielder from him and insisted that he had strongly recommended the player. He praised the midfielder’s ability and admitted that it would be a brilliant signing.
Buchwald stated that if given a chance, Usami could follow the footsteps of Borussia Dortmund star player Shinji Kagawa, who had been inspirational in the club’s Bundesliga win last season.
“It is true that Bayern have asked me about him and I could only be positive. He is a very big talent. He is fast, has excellent technique and has the ability to shoot with both feet. With a little bit of luck, he could follow in the footsteps of [Borussia
Dortmund's] Shinji Kagawa,” he concluded.
Takashi Usami has so far made 55 appearances for Gamba Osaka and scored 15 goals in the process. He was also voted the Japanese League’s Best Young Player last season.
