‘Good old Australian aggression is what I want to see,’ says Dean Jones – Cricket News Update

Australia’s former cricketer, Dean Jones, feels that the national team will have to stand triumphant against South Africa in their upcoming, away series, which kicks off on October 13, 2011, in Cape Town, in order mark a strong ground against the Indian hosts, which are scheduled to tour Australia, later this year, in December.

“Good old Australian aggression is what I want to see. Then bring on the Indians in December. And let me tell you, the Indians are so tired, they will be cherry ripe for a mauling,” said Jones.

The former Australian top-order batsman, who is also under Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) radar for conideration as the national side’s new head coach after Waqar Younis, feels that Cricket Australia (CA) needs some heroes on its ranks in order for the down under squad to earn back its fomer might.

Jones also elaborated on the matter, saying that though the Australian cricket fraternity has been going a thorough phase of overhauling across all its ranks, the team still lacks a diversified lot of players.

“This Australian team is going through change but lacks some real quality game-changers. Guys who can finish off the opposition. There is hope, as we have a new captain and a new coach and new selectors and performance managers are on the way. But the team's performance in Sri Lanka hasn't really grabbed the imagination of the fans or the media,” said Jones.

Since the last defeated Ashes series and then some disappointing seasons prior to the 2011 World Cup, the Australian national team, and its prime governors, CA, went through a full refurbishing in order to revive the side to regain its might under cricket.

For the matter, the world saw some major axing across all areas of the team and its management, but mainly on the selection board.

As for the team’s recent assignment in Sri Lanka, the Aussies managed to secure an unconvincing 1-0 win against the hosts, but according to Jones, the victory failed to impress much of the audience.

However, for now, the former cricketer feels that the team will have to exhibit an imposing performance against the Proteas which would aid the side to successfully take on the upcoming competitions.
