Gonzalo Higuain all set for back operation
Real Madrid hitman Gonzalo Higuain is all set to go under the knife next week in Chicago, USA, a statement read for the La Liga club.
The 23 year striker has not played a fixture since November last year owing to a herniated disc and after consulting various experts and medical specialists, it has been decided that the striker has to be operated. Dr Richard
G Fessler, a professor at Feinberg School of Medicine has been confirmed as the head surgeon of the operation.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has not given any date for the return of the Argentinean forward, but claimed that he doesn’t expects Higuain to be back for the remainder of the season.
Losing the goal scoring form of Higuain may be a huge blow for the Madrid Giants, who only have Karim Benzema as a replacement. It is true that Madrid play with a lone striker but Benzema is still young and has a lot to learn.
Mourinho may well be forced to go shopping in the winter transfer window in order to replace the injured striker at least for the remainder of the season.
In his 18 appearances so far, Higuain has scored 10 times while supplying three assists. On the other hand, Benzema has just managed to score 9 times in 24 appearances for the Los Blancos and the striker issue may become a major
thorn in Mourinho’s hunt for trophies this season.
Higuain enjoys good understanding with fellow forward players like Crisitiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria and has been playing for Real since his was a teenager. It would be a good opportunity for Karim Benzema to step up his development,
as the player has been unimpressive since his 35 million pound switch from French side Olympique Lyon in 2009. Out of favour Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor, currently tops the list of potential transfers for Real Madrid but no contact has been made
with the Togolese striker yet.
