Golf: Parry steals McDowell's lead in second round of Austrian open

John Parry, stole the show on the second day of the Austrian golf open, from the trio of Jose Lara, Peter Edberg and the US Open champion, Graeme McDowell, by carding 8 under.

Golf is an unpredictable sport. At one point of time, the world number one was the leader of the day and by the end of the day the lead went to the 380th ranked player. Similar trends are being observed here at the venue of Diamond Country club, where the 20th edition of the Austrian golf open is taking place. John Parry, ranked 317th  in the official world golf rankings, is the leader of the day,  with an edge of one stroke from the US Open champion McDowell.

As for McDowel, he held the  lead earlier with  seven under 68 along with Jose Manuel Lara only for Parry to surge up the leader board and overtake him with the joint-best round of the day. McDowell is the member of the American US Ryder Cup team, and this is his last competitive event before October 1st. As after that he will rest and prepare himself for the big day.

Looking at his performance last night, McDowell did a good job. He started to tee off at the back nine and birdied the first four holes out of five but dropped a shot on the 17th hole. However, his pace in the front nine was very slow, as, he pared all nine holes and could not manage to card a birdie or an eagle on the greens.

Talking to the press, McDowell said, that although he delivered a modest game, he faced trouble at the front nine. The first half of the course was comparatively trickier with elevated greens and it was hard to drive a ball there with accuracy. As for the second half, it was comparatively easier with flatter greens and therefore the chances of birdies were more. Besides it was a matter of right clubs and three woods was the first choice for teeing off.

According to experts, McDowell was uneasy on the front nine of the Diamond country club but the strategy to beat the challenge should have been to aim for longer drives from the tee with the help of drivers with longer shafts. The rest of the show belongs to the wedge and mid iron for the second shot. Although, Mc Dowell scored nine under in the back nine, he was 2 over from the front nine which means, that he has to make up for the lost shots in the two upcoming rounds.

Moving on, John Parry was the new leader of the clan with a score of 67. The 23-year-old carded a bogeyless round with five birdies and surged to the top. The player is the challenge tour graduate which means that if he wins the tournament then, he will confirm his card to the Euro tour.

According to media reports, Parry is a good player but there is plenty of golf left to make him one of the finest players of the world. Although he was the member of the Walker cup that took place in 2007, but, this is not enough for him to retain the lead. Therefore, his chances to remain in the lead and then win it as well are negligible.

This is it for the second round of the Austrian golf open that was taking place at the course of the Diamond country club. John Parry took the lead by one shot. He was followed by Graeme McDowell, Jose Lara and Peter Edberg. As for now, the third round of the tournament has started and very soon the results will hit the leader board.
