Georginio Wijnaldum: PSV Eindhoven always play for the title – Dutch Eredivisie news
Official reports confirm that PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord Rotterdam have reached an agreement on the transfer of Georginio Wijnaldum and the midfielder has left De Kuip Stadion to pursue his career at Philips Stadion.
The 20-year-old has signed a contract with PSV that runs until the summer of 2015. The versatile midfielder is looking confident ahead of the 2011/12 campaign and believes that he will be competing for silverware with his new side.
De Stadionclub and the Boeren have been holding talks over the transfer of the Dutch U-21 International for quite some time now. The 20-year-old started his professional career at De Kuip Stadion in the 2007/08 season after training with their youth team
for almost three years.
Since his debut in April 2007, the young midfield ace has appeared in 111 matches and managed to find the back of the net on 23 occasions. However, he performed exceptionally in the Stadiumclub’s attacking third in the recently concluded 2010/11 campaign,
scoring 14 goals in 34 appearances. His good performances did not go unnoticed, as Fulham FC, Liverpool FC, Arsenal FC and PSV have all shown keen interest in signing the midfielder in the ongoing summer transfer market.
The young midfielder, however, preferred to pursue his career in Dutch top tier with the Boeren. The versatile midfielder revealed that the feeling to play with one of the top Eredivisie clubs is special.
“This is pretty special for me. I'm still a young player and I'm keen to continue developing into a better player. That's why staying in the Netherlands was in my best interest. PSV always play for the Eredivisie title and that's new for me”, Wijnaldum said
to the club’s official website.
The promising youngster had a contract with the Rotterdam giants that ran until the summer of 2012, but given the fact that the youngster wanted to take the next step in his career by making a move away from De Kuip Stadion, the Stadiumclub management was
forced to let go of their prized asset.
PSV have also earlier successfully signed the FC Utrecht duo, Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman. Now with the acquisition of Wijnaldum, the Boeren have strengthened their midfield and brightened their chances of winning silverware in the upcoming season.
