Gay agrees to $80million extension with Memphis
The Memphis Grizzles have tried to ward-off potential suitors for Rudy Gay by offering their power forward a big offer to stay with the franchise.
Sources close to the negotiations have said the deal is worth $80million over five-years and that Gay has already accepted the offer.
The Grizzlies have offered Gay the deal to keep the Minnesota Timberwolves and New Jersey Jets from Gay, who they drafted in 2006. The new contract will pay Gay more than $13million next year with raises of 10.5 per cent every year.
The current offer is $30million richer than the one Memphis offered Gay last year and Gay has now reportedly cancelled a visit to Minnesota.
Gay averaged 19.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.48 steals in just under 40 minutes last year.
