Agent of Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay claims that he is not aware of any potential interest in his client from Italian giants AS Roma.
The Argentine was offloaded by Real Madrid as he was deemed surplus to requirements at Santiago Bernabeu last summer and was acquired by Benfica after he left Spain.
Jorge Jesus made a gamble on the player’s abilities and gave him a berth alongside Luisao at the heart of the backline. Garay, though, hasn’t disappointed and is now known as one of the best defenders in Primeira Liga.
His partnership with his fellow South American has been one of the major reasons why the Lisbon giants are in the driving seat for the title race as well as in the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League.
Unsurprisingly, his high caliber have been the talk of many European clubs, with Italian Serie side AS Roma seriously considering a big-money swoop for the Sky Blue International.
The Wolves are far behind their illustrious rivals Juventus and AC Milan in terms of overall quality and are looking to bolster their defence in order to mount a scudetto challenge next season.
Ezequiel Garay is allegedly on their radar and according to the latest media reports; the Lupi will make official contact for his signature when the transfer window re-opens in the next few months.
However the player’s agent has crushed the rumour mill, saying that he had not been contacted by the Italian giants and he had only heard about the move from the media.
Speaking to reporters, the representative said that he had learnt about the club’s interest from the press and that he had not been contacted by them for a potential summer switch.
"The truth is that I learned about Roma's interest through the press.”
"I have not been contacted by anyone,” Ricardo Schlieper was quoted as saying.
Being one of Benfica’s best players, there is no way that the club would let him leave him on the cheap even if an official proposal did come in. Garay is valued highly at the Stadium of Light and to acquire him, a potential suitor must be ready to cough
up some serious amount of cash.
