Fulham’s bid for Pablo Osvaldo rejected; Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne signs for Hamburg

Fulham’s Osvaldo bid rejected

English club, Fulham, have had a bid rejected for Espanyol striker, Pablo Osvaldo, who had an impressive La Liga season with the Spanish side.

Osvaldo has attracted interest from a host of European clubs after he scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for Espanyol in the 2010/11 season. The Cottagers reportedly bid 10.5 million Pounds to sign the Argentinean but the Parakeets rejected it.

The club have shown a strong stance to keep hold of their prized asset and insist that they will not accept an offer less than 17.5 million Pounds. The player’s agent has also admitted that his client is happy at the Catalonian club and only a big club can change his mind.

Fulham are looking to strengthen their squad after gaining qualification for next year’s UEFA Europa League on fair play allocation. Mark Hughes’s side had to struggle after their only recognized striker, Bobby Zamora, had to miss a large chunk of the 2010/11 season through injuries.

Mancienne signs for Hamburg

Chelsea defender, Michael Mancienne, has signed for the German Bundesliga outfit, Hamburg SV, on a four-year contract.

The 23-year-old emerged from the youth ranks at the Stamford Bridge in 2006 but was constantly loaned out to other clubs. The defender enjoyed two loan spells with Queens Park Rangers and three loan seasons with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The defender failed to impress the managers at Chelsea and was sold to Hamburg for an undisclosed fee. The player expressed his delight on moving to Germany and is hoping to guide the club to success in the future.

Talking to the reporters, Mancienne said, “HSV are a large and long-established club with fantastic fans. It is a great challenge for me to be playing for this club.”

The former England U-21 star can play in different defensive positions and was utilized as a defensive midfielder during his time with the Wolves.

Former Chelsea manager, Guus Hiddink, once stated that Mancienne is an automatic replacement for club captain, John Terry, but the defender failed to live up to the expectations and managed to make only 4 appearances in the Blues shirt.
