Fulham versus Liverpool – Second half review: English Premier League (Part 1)

The second half of the English Premier League matchup between Fulham and Liverpool resumed with the score line in favour of the Reds as Kenny Dalglish’s team took the field at Craven Cottage with a three goal advantage over their rivals. Mark Hughes made some changes to his team’s line up at the half time break as Bobby Zamora entered the field of play in pace of Simon Davies.

Introduction of the big Englishman forced Fulham to alter their shape as Moussa Dembele was shifted towards the wing whilst Zamora took up his place as the spearhead of Fulham’s attack. Liverpool were jolted at the start of the second half with an injury to Raul Meireles. The Portuguese midfielder had to be substituted as a result of his hamstring problem as Jonjo Shelvey replaced the box-to-box midfielder.

In the 49th minute of the match, Fulham had two wonderful chances to pull a goal back. The Cottagers were allowed to play through the Liverpool defence and they took full advantage of this situation as Bobby Zamora rose above Jamie Carragher to head straight at Pepe Reina. The Spanish goalkeeper showcased tremendous reflexes as he tipped the ball back into play. However the ball fell straight to Clint Dempsey who flashed his shot way over the bar as the score line remained at three nil at Craven Cottage.

In the 50th minute, Liverpool were caught out at the back once again. It was Eider Gudjohnsen who found himself in space inside the away team’s penalty area. The former Chelsea striker who is renowned for his goal scoring skills failed to produce a trademark finish this time around as Fulham failed to score their first goal of the match.

In the 54th minute, Liverpool embarked on a counter attack of their own as Luis Suarez was played in by Glen Johnson via a cross field ball. However Brede Hangeland read the right back’s intentions as he intercepted the pass and cleared the ball away for the Cottagers.

In the 57th minute, Fulham finally penetrated in behind the Liverpool defence through Dembele. The speedy striker was played in by Bobby Zamora who held off a challenge from Martin Skrtel in the process. Nonetheless, Dembele made no mistake with his final effort as Pepe Reina was unable to get his hand on the Belgian forward’s shot.
