Fulham manager Mark Hughes all praise for Javier Hernandez ahead of Old Trafford showdown – EPL news
Fulham manager Mark Hughes is impressed with the performance of Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez in his debut season for the club.
Hernandez, who joined United before the start of the ongoing 2010-11 season from Mexican club Guadalajara, has taken the Premier League by storm and impressed everyone with his performances. The Mexican has scored 17 goals in all competitions so far and
has drawn comparisons with the club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Mexican has scored some really important goals for the Red Devils coming off the bench and has converted defeats into wins on a few occasions.
Wayne Rooney was handed a two-match ban by the Football Association for using foul language in front of the camera after scoring a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over West Ham United over the weekend.
Fulham will travel to Old Trafford to take on United in a Premier League game on Saturday. Hernandez is expected to start upfront in Rooney’s absence and Hughes believes that the Mexican has the quality to carry the goal-scoring burden on his shoulders.
Hughes said, “Wayne Rooney is the first-choice striker for Manchester United, so when he is not playing, it takes something away from the team. However, I have been really impressed with Hernandez; I think he is a fantastic striker.”
“You look at his movement and his understanding of where the ball is going to drop in the box, his energy and ability to recognise which run to make - so although Wayne is not going to be involved, United have a young striker there who could be one of the
best,” he added.
Hughes, who himself played as a striker for Manchester United in his playing career, added that Hernandez is different to other strikers in the game. The 47-year-old added that Hernandez understands the game really well and his pace and clever movement can
test even the best defenders in the game.
The former Manchester City manager went onto praise Sir Alex Ferguson for signing the Mexican as an unknown prodigy and considers that the deal was a bargain as United only had to pay approximately 7 million pounds for his services.
