Football Transfer Update: EPL News- Birmingham City breaks out about their 3 latest signings Hleb, Jiranek and Beausejour
It has been a last busy day for Birmingham City, as in the last few days before the transfer window closed on 31st August, Blues have signed in 3 good players.
Just recently, they have announced the transfer deal of 26 year old Chilean international, Jean Beausejour. It is said that the contract signed is for 3 years and his salary has been revised.
The player has been signed in from Club America, where he had 45 appearances and scored 3 goals. The winger has been playing for his country since 2004. He has played for 30 caps for the country and has scored 2 times.
The club’s manager, Alex McLeish has stated that he is ecstatic over the signing over these new signings and hoped that these new signings especially the one from the Club America which happens in Mexican club.
McLeish stated that he hoped the Chilean player will evolve in the club and prove to be a regular in the team. Beausejour is joining the newly signed Martin Jiranek and the veteran midfielder Alexander Hleb.
McLeish has stated his new left footed winger is a valuable addition to the squad. He expressed that though he knew of the player before; he really caught his eye during the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
In the tournament in South Africa, Beausejour impressed with his capabilities from the left wing. The player overall had a pretty good World Cup campaign in which he helped Chile progress to the Round of 16.
In reference to Beausejour, “Beausejour is an excellent, left-sided midfielder who had a tremendous World Cup with Chile, he was their star player against Spain - and also played very well in a pre-season friendly against Manchester City recently.”
He added, “"He has been on our list of targets for a long time because he is strong and quick with the ability to beat his man and get crosses in.”
Just before the transfer of Beausejour, McLeish also signed in a surprise gift for his fans and that was the maestro Barcelona midfielder Alyaksandr Hleb. The player has been signed in on loan after the Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola declared that he no longer needed the 29 year old player at Catalans.
Hleb has also been playing on loan for some time now. The deal was surprising because the Belarus international snubbed offers from Tottenham Hotspurs and Liverpool to join Birmingham City.
The former Arsenal player made 89 appearances for the Gunners in which he scored 7 goals before Barcelona placed a bid for him and signed him in 2008. Hleb had originally started his youth career from Barcelona and therefore was happy to return but in the club, he played just 19 matches before he was loaned to Stuttgart, a German club.
Hleb has ever since failed to make an impression to join the first team of Barca, with Guardiola ending the player’s dream of entering the first line up. The Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has claimed that Hleb is a major signing for a club. Definitely, with the prospects presented by the player it will be certain that he will be a difference maker at Blues.
Birmingham City is currently at the 6th position in the English Premier League. Last season the club finished at the 9th position in Premier League despite lack of world class players.
Apart from Hleb there is another player that can make a difference at Birmingham and that is the 24 year old French forward Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan Athletic. The player came to Wigan just last season and has had 50 appearances for them, scoring 6 goals.
In a press statement, McLeish commented on the signings saying, “Hleb is a top quality player - one who at one stage we'd only actually dreamed about really. Over the past year or so we have talked about him but with no real belief we could get him. We decided to give it a try and towards the end of the window we found out it might be possible”.
