Bayern Munich defender Edson Braafheid transferred to Hoffenheim alongside countryman Babel

Latest news from Germany has confirmed of Netherlands International Edson Braafheid making a transfer within the German Bundesliga. Reports have confirmed the defender has made a switch in allegiance, joining Hoffenheim from the German footballing powerhouse Bayern Munich.

This transfer is set to change the fate of Hoffenheim, a club that came from lowly grounds but has excelled due to intense team chemistry. Now, however, they have been adding new players to their squad, a decision that has yet to show results.

They just recently acquired Dutch striker Ryan Babel from Liverpool, making the signing of Braafheid more than just a coincidence. With the two Dutchmen added in Hoffenheim’s squad, they have certainly increased their pool of talent but the question remains, ‘was this decision for the good or the bad?’ Only time can tell.

According to media reports, the former Utrecht player has inked a contract of three and a half years this Thursday. Pundits have already predicted the new 27-year-old Hoffenheim player to make a big impact at the club alongside the out-of-favour former Reds striker, Babel.

Braafheid has reckoned the transfer to be very important in rejuvenating his career and making more appearances in internationals for his nation. At the moment the Dutch man has made just 8 appearances for Netherlands, however, it is expected he will start more often in the international from here on.

The left back was amidst worries and miseries at Bayern Munich, not being able to establish a permanent spot on the first team.

After his arrival from FC Twente during the season of 2008-2009 the defender has only capped 12 times for the German giants. Soon afterwards he spent the remaining season on loan with the Scottish club, Celtic.

On loan with Celtics, he featured 10 times but after his six month contract, he traveled back to Germany. His performance with Celtics was average at best but being among the few recognized left backs and the ability to shift in defensive positions, the player has earned a couple of extra points.

It is expected he will be gaining more first team appearances with Hoffenheim, which will surely present the true colours of the player.
