Floyd Mayweather: I may come out and not be that fast – Boxing News
WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather will be facing WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Champion tomorrow (May 4) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather, who actively participates in taunts and trash-talks before fights, has been pretty calm this time
around. In fact, this is probably the first time Mayweather has been so respectful towards a fighter in his career.
The bout will have Cotto’s title on the line, making it an important match to win for him. When asked about Cotto, Mayweather had to say, “Miguel is a true warrior, a tough champion, and to go down in the Hall of Fame as one of the best, you have to face
the true champions out there.”
On the other hand, Cotto said about Mayweather, “He’s been a gentleman the whole way with me. I’ve been a gentleman with him. That’s the way it should be. You get paid to fight in the ring, not outside the ring.”
Unexpectedly, Mayweather thinks he might not be as speedy as he usually is. When asked about his preparations for the fight, Mayweather stated, “I may come out and not be that fast. He may come out and be fast. You don’t know what they’ve been working on
in their camp. They may have been working on just a certain thing just to get his speed up.”
Similarly, Cotto spoke of his preparations too. According to Cotto, if you face a fighter like Mayweather with just one strategy in mind then you are going to fail. Cotto said that Mayweather has speed, skills and he can run, which means you need to have
more than just one strategy to take him down. He added that once he is in the ring with Floyd, he will know which strategy to follow and when.
According to Cotto, most people think this is an easy fight for him but it is not. He said that it looks easier from the outside but when you are actually there, there are a lot of factors that can take you down such as the crowd pressure and the fact that
Cotto is a great fighter.
