Five-year old Dolphin swallows toy volleyball in China
The Dolphins, who are among the most intelligent animals in the world and have playful attitude, are quite popular in human culture. People usually keep them in the aquariums and pools for their friendly appearance and their naughty nature.
Quite recently, a dolphin at a Chinese aquarium suffered from a painful experience. Reportedly, a five-year old dolphin named Jiang Bo in Nanjing, China was playing with the volleyball in the pool. The staff saw him drag the ball deep down into the water
but when he reappeared on the surface, the ball was gone.
Jiang Bo had actually swallowed the toy volleyball. The matter was brought to the team of local doctors, who in the first place tried to avoid the surgery and opted for an alternative. They called a long-armed Chinese basketball player for help. Meng Da,
the professional basketball player of Jiangsu Province club, rushed to the aquarium and generously offered his help, in order to free the dolphin from pain. The 6 ft 4” player tried but he was unable to reach the ball in dolphin’s stomach.
Eventually, the poor dolphin was shifted to a hospital affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, where the doctors operated on him. They attached a medical steel wire and inserted it inside dolphin’s body. They tried to pull the ball with steel cord but
just when it seemed likely to happen, the cord broke. However, the veterinary team did not lose hope and continued with the procedure. The procedure was supposed to take 30 minutes but it prolonged to three hours. Finally, the team succeeded in pulling the
ball out of dolphin’s stomach and released him from pain.
After the treatment of Jiang Bo, an official with the Chinese aquarium said, “We can say that Jiang Bo's life is no longer at risk. But of course he will require long-term recovery treatment. We'll give him post-operation care and adjust his diet.”
The unusual patient was originally imported from Japan to keep it in the Nanjing Underwater World and it swallowed the volleyball on Wednesday. Now he will be given appropriate diet to recover from inner injuries if he had any during the process of pulling
the volleyball out of his stomach.
