  • Fabio Capello warns Roy Hodgson about the English national team job

The Italian tactician has warned the new English national team manager that the Three Lions job is not a piece of cake as he will have to deal with different things during his time as the national team manager...

Fabio Capello has come out and warned Roy Hodgson after the Englishman was appointed as the new English national team manager. Capello was the previous England manager but he walked away from the job after disagreements with the Football Association over John Terry’s removal as the captain of the national team.

Capello came under sustained criticism especially after England’s woeful FIFA 2010 World Cup campaign where they were subjected to a humiliating defeat by Germany in the round of 16. The Italian manager did ensure England’s participation in the upcoming European Championships in Poland and Ukraine by managing a fantastic qualification campaign for the three lions. Now Roy Hodgson will lead the three lions into the European Championships but he must be prepared to face what awaits him says Capello.

The former Real Madrid manager said, “As a club manager, you are a manager. As a national team manager, you are a selector. You cannot work with and get the best out of the players all of the time because some are injured, some are not in a top moment, some are unhappy with their club's position, some have a problem with their manager.”

He added, "It's not a normal job. It's difficult to create something. You can't do something in a short space of time. The idea is to create the team spirit and winning mentality in a really short time. This is very difficult. It will be hard. And the other thing is that you don't play a lot of games. In nearly every game, you are either in or out. I've known Roy since he was coaching in Italy and I have met him often in these last few years. I believe he is a very good and experienced manager. I wish him all the best for the future and Euro 2012.”
