FA Cup Goal Summary: Fulham vs Charlton Athletic
Fulham played host to Charlton in the FA Cup’s third round, as both the teams were looking to make it to the next stage of the competition.
Despite Fulham being hailed as the favourites, Charlton were more than likely to put up a tough fight in the game, given their experience of playing against the Cottagers from their Premier League days.
Following an early spell of the ball flowing back and forth between the two sides, Fulham started to assert their authority in the game, as they scored the opening goal of the match.
Danny Murphy went on to take a pop at goal and with the keeper deflecting his shot back into play, Dempsey rushed forward to knock the ball into the back of the net with ease.
The game stayed at one nil till the second half, when Fulham went on to fire with all their cannons blazing.
Bryan Ruiz and Dempsey combined in the Charlton half and the American international got played on, before he sent a clam and composed shot into the back of the net.
Despite Fulham being in top form, they were handed a helping hand from their opponents, as a silly foul in the box, resulted in the referee awarding a penalty to Fulham.
Dempsey stepped up to take the spot kick and went on to score his and Fulham’s third goal of the game with ease.
Damien Duff decided to get in on the act as well and the forward went on to score a fourth goal in the dying minutes of the game, to ensure all the points for his side.
In the end, Fulham went on to pick up the comfortable win, following a four goals to nil win over their opponents.
