Erik Pieters’ agent claims his client will join Newcastle United – Dutch Eredivisie news
PSV Eindhoven’s Erik Pieters is on the brink of completing a move away from Philips Stadion to join English Premier League outfit, Newcastle United. Piet van der Pol, Pieters’ agent, has claimed that his client’s transfer to the Magpies would be completed
in the coming days.
The 23-year-old arrived at Philips Stadion in the summer of 2008 after making 51 appearances for FC Utrecht. Since his arrival, the left-back has remained an essential part of the PSV back-line, representing them in 76 matches.
The Magpies are in search of a new left-back following the successful move of Jose Enrique to Liverpool FC. Alan pardew, the Toons head coach, sees the Dutch International as an ideal replacement for Enrique at the vacant left-back position.
Pieters’ agent has claimed that his client’s departure from the Boeren seems imminent and revealed that he is confident that the transfer will materialize before the end of the ongoing summer transfer market.
“Newcastle's interest is very serious and Erik finds the club a real challenge. I don't know the exact numbers of Newcastle's offer, but I'm pretty sure that the transfer will go ahead”, Van der Pol was quoted as saying to the media.
Reports in English media confirm that Pardew watched the Dutch stopper in action in the Boeren’s 3-0 win over ADO Den Haag. The Toon head coach was reportedly pleased with the left-back’s performance, and has re-opened talks with the Eindhoven giants. The
PSV management had turned down the Magpies’ initial bid.
The Boeren do not intend to let go of their star left-back in the ongoing summer transfer market. However, reports suggest that an offer in the region of 8 million Euros would be enough to lure away the Dutch stopper, who is under contract at PSV until the
summer of 2014.
Reports in Dutch media suggest that should Pieters’ move to Newcastle materialise, PSV would be signing FC Groningen’s Tim Matavz with the money received from the possible transfer of the left defender, while Abel Tamata would be occupying the vacant left-back
position at Philips Stadion.
