England defenders Michael Dawson, Ashley Cole wary of Gareth Bale threat
England defenders Ashley Cole and Michael Dawson have warned their teammates to be wary of Gareth Bale’s threat in England’s weekend game against Wales at the Millennium Stadium.
The Tottenham Hotspur winger is in sensational form in the ongoing 2010-11 season and has scored 11 goals before being troubled by a persistent back injury. Bale scored a wonderful hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League game against Inter Milan at the San Siro. The 21-year-old went easily past world’s best right back at the moment, Maicon in the game and nearly won the match for the Spurs after they went 4-0 down in the first half.
Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole believes that Bale can win any match on his own.
“Bale is fantastic. Last season and this season he has shown how good he is. It shows in football you just need confidence. At one time, he didn't have much confidence as he wasn't playing as much as he would have liked. Then he starts to play and now he is proving how good he is,” said Cole.
Cole added that the Three Lions should not take the Wales team for granted, as the matches against their neighbours are totally different from other matches.
England’s most capped full-back, Cole, who has made 87 appearances for the Three Lions, says he has witnessed electrifying atmosphere while playing against Ireland and Scotland so he urged his teammates not to take Ian Rush’s side easy. Cole regards it as a big game for their chances in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Bale’s club teammate Michael Dawson is also wary of the Welshman’s threat and believes he can be a deadly opponent.
Dawson said, “In the Premier League, in the Champions League, Gareth has been unbelievable and that's credit to him. He's had to work hard but people don't stop talking about him everywhere he goes and credit to him, he deserves it. When we play against him, we're certainly going to have to be prepared for him.”
