Edwin Van Der Sar believes Manchester United’s balanced squad gives them edge over title rivals 

Manchester United goalkeeper, Edwin Van Der Sar, believes that a perfect mixture of youth and experience in the squad is the main reason behind United’s success over the years. According to him, United have a more balanced squad than other major rivals like Chelsea or Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has been hugely criticized for his focus on deploying a young Arsenal squad season after season. Even his club captain, Cesc Fabregas, has criticized his tactics and believes that no team can win the silverware with youth and the club must decide if they want to win trophies or develop young players.

On the other hand, Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea have been criticized for having a squad composed of older players and there is no talent for the future in their ranks.

The Dutchman believes that the Red Devils have some experienced heads who know what it takes to win the titles and they are perfectly complemented by a blend of youth players who receive constant nurturing from the veterans.

Talking to the reporters Van Der Sar said, "On the one hand you have a young player who brings maybe enthusiasm and fresh legs. The on the other you have the experienced guys, who have the knowledge and the composure in important situations."

The 40-year-old is all set to retire from professional football but he revealed that he is still learning despite having massive experience of the game.

He said, "It is not just during the games, even in training you are always learning. That's very important because every time you step out onto the pitch you have to be on your toes and ready for all the things that can happen."

The former Ajax goalkeeper also praised veteran midfielders, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, for the way they are playing despite nearing the end of their careers. Van Der Sar believes the duo will play a huge role in guiding United to win the trophies this season.  

The veteran goalkeeper wants to end his career on a high by guiding United to their 19^th Premier League title and emulate bitter rivals Liverpool as the most successful club in England.
