Former Manchester United shot stopper, Edwin Van Der Sar has asked David De Gea to deal with the pressure that he is currently facing, or he could risk watching his career fall apart.
De Gea went on to join Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in the summers, but since then, the keeper has really failed to live up to his expectations.
The young keeper has often gone on to let a goal or two sneak past him and his inability to command the area has often been considered to be a massive disadvantage.
The Spaniards performances had gotten so bad, that Alex Ferguson had ended up starting to use Anders Lindegaard instead of De Gea in goal.
This in itself tells us just how poorly De Gea had been performing, considering the fact that Ferguson bought a keeper in the summers, because he felt Lindegaard was a second choice keeper at best.
Nonetheless, Van Der Sar has gone on urge the young keeper to maintain his focus and try and overcome the pressure if he is to survive at the club.
The former Dutch international is quoted to have said: “It's always difficult if you're coming into a new club and new league, especially the English one”
“It's a very demanding one, can be a very tough one.”
“He has to deal with that. They paid a lot of money for him and he has to come through that.”
After urging De Gea to maintain his focus, Van Der Sar went on to praise Lindegaard as he admitted the keepers form has been quite outstanding this season.
He added: “I spoke to Anders and he's disappointed of course, that he's injured at the moment because he's really been magnificent."
Should De Gea be able to follow Van Der Sar’s advice, the young Spaniard could see himself blossom and have a brilliant career at Old Trafford.
However, should he end up caving under the pressure, he could see himself walkout the door in the near future, as United would end up having absolutely no use for him.
It is now a wait to see just how De Gea performs in upcoming games and whether he ends up improving or not.
