Director National Performance of Cycling Australia claims Cyclones will win Olympic medals
The director of National Performance at Cycling Australia, Kevin Tabotta, claimed recently it will not come as a surprise if Cyclones bag medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Tabotta went so far as to suggest that the Cyclones are capable of securing a medal in each of the Olympic velodrome events.
The claims made by Tabotta were not shot in the air rather; they were backed by impressive performance given recently by the Cyclones at the UCI World Cup. The world championship took place at the Olympic venue where the Australian Cyclones were able to
bring back home a total of seven medals. Two medals out of these were gold.
Tabotta expressed his expectations with the Cyclones at the upcoming Olympic event in the following manner, “We've really been on top for the last couple of years but it is always a challenge to stay on top. When you're coming from behind it is sometimes
an easier task, easier to keep people's heads on and expectations at a level but when you're competing from the front you have to keep the wolves at bay and keep lifting it a notch every time. The challenge for the Olympics in August is whether we can go two
or three seconds faster to win the gold medal.”
The Australians were able to come in the first place by beating the team from United Kingdom. The performance put up by the Australians enabled them to register the third fastest track completion in the history of the velodrome event. The time that the Australian
squad recorded at the world championship was 3:54.615. The Australian team members who made it possible were Jack Bobridge, Rohan Dennis, Michael Hepburn and Alex Edmondson.
It is expected that when the London 2012 Olympic Games start on July 27, the world mark of the velodrome event would fall by three seconds at least. The falling of the world mark would further increase the chances of the Australian Cyclones to bring back
home more medals from the London 2012 Olympic Games when they reach their close on August 12.
