Delhi Daredevils v Mumbai Indians – IPL 5 – Delhi prevail by 37 runs – Live Score and Update

Delhi Daredevils 207/5 (20/20 ov) v Mumbai Indians 170/9 (20/20 ov) - Delhi Daredevils won by 37 runs

On Friday, April 27, Delhi Daredevils held their number-one spot in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) by decapitating rivals Mumbai Indians, at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi.

After losing the toss in the home game, Devils were asked to bat first by visitors Mumbai, who were aiming to restrict the hosts on a meagre tally.

However, this was not Mumbai’s day as their bowling attack was ripped to bits and pieces by the side which was batting on home turf and knew exactly what was needed to exhibit their superiority.

The likes of skipper Harbhajan Singh, Rahul Shukla and RP Singh were completely helpless against the Delhi Daredevils as they failed to make headways with their bowling.

Meanwhile, Delhi forged an astounding opening stand of 135 runs as Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag belted the bowlers all around the park, dominating the fielding side right from the word go.

Jayawardene departed after hammering an innings of 55, while his opening partner clobbered a massive innings of 73 runs before his demise.

However, this did not falter the batting side as star batsman, Kevin Pietersen, belted a phenomenal innings of 50 runs on just 26 deliveries, powering his side towards imposing a nerve-racking total of 207 runs.

With a huge total to chase, Mumbai needed a miraculous batting performance from their batsmen, but Irfan Pathan opened his account on the third delivery of the innings by grabbing the wicket of Mumbai opener AC Blizzard on nil.

Disaster struck when with 19 runs on the board, Mumbai had lost three batsmen that included the prized wicket of Sachin Tendulkar and with the batting maestro decommissioned, Mumbai were surely sailing in hostile waters.

Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu were the only two batsmen who gave Delhi some resistance as they clobbered 40 and 62 runs, but this was not enough to avoid an eventual defeat as the side could bolster only 170 runs in response to the required tally.

Delhi Daredevils skipper was named as the Player of the Match for being the highest scorer in the clash.
