Defenseman Mark Fraser re-signs with Toronto Maple Leafs in a one-year, two-way deal
Toronto Maple Leafs of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL) has re-signed their defenseman Mark Fraser for one more year in a two-way deal. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by anyone.
This is the fourth consecutive time that Fraser has signed a deal for just one year as previous three times he had signed one year deals with New Jersey Devils, which he did for $500,000 in 2009-2010 season, the same amount, $500,000 in the next season,
2010-2011 and got an increment of just $50,000 in the last season as he signed for 550,000 in 2011-2012 season.
His signing has come in a approach of Toronto franchise to make their team strong and give their roster some depth. Sending him to their AHL affiliates Toronto Marlies might also be one option for them as Fraser has already played most of his hockey in minor
29-year-old defenseman started his hockey career in 2004-2005 season with Kitchen Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), a team that has produced legendary players and hall of famers like Scott Stevens, Bill Barber, Paul Coffey, Larry Robinson, Mike
Richards, Dale Hunter, Steve Mason, Derek Roy, Steve Downie and Al MacInnis.
The very next year he was selected 84th overall in the 2005 NHL draft but he was not signed by them until 2009. In between he played for many teams in the American Hockey League (AHL), after he made his AHL debut with Albany River Rats.
The 6-foot-3 and 200 pounder also played few seasons with Lowell Devils where he played three full seasons and showed a performance which earned him a call from New Jersey Devils in 2009.
The Ottawa, Ontario born player made his NHL debut with New Jersey Devils in 2009-2010 season and was sent to their AHL affiliates Albany Devils in between through the 2010-2011 season. After playing few starting games of the 2011-2012 NHL season with Devils
and on 12th December 2011 he was traded to Anaheim Ducks after which he was sent to Syracuse Crunch of AHL.
Just after two months, on 27th February 2012, Fraser was traded to Toronto Marlies for Dale Mitchell, where he played rest of his last season and signed his latest contract.
In NHL, Fraser has played 98 games, scoring three goals, five assists for total of eight points.
