Davis Love grabs a lead, Rory McIlroy at the second position at the Honda Classic
Davis love is leading the leaderboard over Rory McIlroy by scoring a wonderful fifth hole ace in the first round of the Honda Classic in Florida.
The 47-year-old American professional golfer delivered his best and successfully reached the highest position by scoring five impressive birdies. He attracted most of the spectators and cheered them by up his good shots.
"I've been hitting the ball real well, and a lot of tournaments last year, I just didn't get off to a good start," said Love.
He added, "I had a lot of even-par the first day or one-over, and just get behind the eight-ball. So I'm just glad to be off to a good start".
He finished the day by recording a 6-under par and 64 strokes in total. He maintains a two-stroke lead over eight players.
Love's performance at the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens, is the best in the current season.
McIlroy also started impressively and competed well for the leading position. The 22-year-old Northern Irish professional scored a 4-under par and 66 strokes in total and was tied with seven players for the second position.
He was unable to score an ace or a birdie on the fifth hole, which took him two strokes behind the leader, Love.
However, his overall performance is up to the mark. He is also looking forward to delivering more birdies, so that he can lead the second round.
McIlroy has been planning to become the No. 1 since January. He appeared at the Accenture Match Play Championship and finished on the runner-up position, losing a chance to be the world golf leader.
He is aiming high to win the Honda Classic title, so that he can be on top of the world rankings.
"Obviously with all of the talk of No. 1, it would be great to get to that position at some point," said McIlroy.
"I'm working towards that and I feel like I'm playing good enough to challenge for it at least," he continued.
Round one is not yet complete, as the game was suspended due to bad light. The two players are still on the course and they will be performing on Friday, at 7:30 am. The second round will start according to the schedule.
