David Carry claims Men’s 400m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals
David Carry of Stockport Mo claimed gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on foremost day of the 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals in Sheffield, England on Wednesday, June 20.
Carry remained comfortably ahead of his opponents and faced no trouble in occupying gold medal of the discipline. He continued his nerve-wrecking form throughout the eight-lap race and made his way to the finishing end for first position.
With his fantastic pace, he enjoyed a lead of one and a half body length over his strongest competitor and reached the finishing wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 46.86 seconds for the title.
He was followed by Ieuan Lloyd of Co Cardiff, who remained 1.24 seconds behind and made his way to the finishing end with an effort of 3 minutes and 48.10 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was trailed by Sergii Frolov of Ukraine, who stayed 4.02 seconds behind and hit the finishing end for bronze medal by producing a time of 3 minutes and 52.12 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by Lewis Smith of Warrender Ba, who was almost one second slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 3 minutes and 53.03 seconds.
Smith was trailed by David Davies of Co Cardiff, who stayed nearly 2.90 seconds slower and hit the finishing end with the timing of 3 minutes and 55.91 seconds for fifth position.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Daniel Coombs of Stockport Mo, who was only 0.18 seconds behind and posted a time of 3 minutes and 56.09 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh spot of the event was secured by Jack Burnell of Loughborough University, who was one second apart and submitted a time of 3 minutes and 57.09 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Caleb Hughes of Hatfield, who stayed 0.47 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 3 minutes and 57.56 seconds.
In addition, the championship will continue for three consecutive days and will conclude on June 23 after the completion of all swimming events.
