Dane Caroline Wozniacki through to semi-finals of Qatar Ladies Open 2011

Qatar Ladies Open 2011 top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark extended her 11-game winning streak to 12 games in a row after beating Italy’s Flavia Pennetta in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Pennetta did not seem to have much to offer as she was defeated a humiliating 6-2, 6-0 to be sent home.

“I was playing really good tennis, I stayed calm and had to go for my shots,” Wozniacki said after the match. The Dane will face Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli in the semi-finals of the Qatar Open.

Bartoli made it through to the semis after defeating China's Peng Shuai in the quarterfinal. In a matter of 71 minutes, Shuai was beaten as Bartoli dominated the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to eliminate her opponent from the tournament. “I thought I played well. I could have finished earlier. I mean, it could have been 6-1 in the second instead of 6-2, even 6-0, but overall it was a great performance,” said Bartoli.

Wozniacki was seen wearing a Liverpool football jersey with England's Steven Gerrard's name printed across the back during a warm up session prior to the match against Pennetta.

Wozniacki, the reigning world number one, said, “I’m a big fan of Liverpool. Since Liverpool is playing tonight [against Sparta Prague], I thought it would be nice and even the fans liked it.”

Receiving a bye into the second round, Caroline Wozniacki went head to head with Nadia Petrova of Russia. Dismally for the Russian, Wozniacki thrashed her 6-3, 6-2 to delete her from the tournament. Earlier, Petrova had defeated Italy's Roberta Vinci 6-4, 6-2 to face the Dane.

Among others to make it through to the semi-finals is Russia's Vera Zvonareva. The professional went nip and tuck with Slovak Daniela Hantuchova, defeating her 7-5, 6-7 and 7-5 to make a place for herself in the following round. Zvonareva will face Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the semi-finals of the Qatar Ladies Open 2011.
