Dana White: Ben Henderson, Anthony Pettis showdown is possible – UFC news
Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White, in a press conference after the epic UFC 144 pay-per-view said that Anthony Pettis might get a title shot against Ben Henderson but nothing is confirmed yet adding that he loves to put up great fight nights
by making arch rivals stand against each other but everyone has to wait for a while.
Ben and Anthony share a history, a bitter one, which both men especially Ben recalls with great pain and sorrow. Henderson was the lightweight champion in World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) when he was scheduled to take on Anthony Pettis in a five-round bout
with title on the line.
The bout ended in somewhat a unique manner when Pettis executed a beautiful kick which was later on dubbed as the ‘Showtime Kick’. The kick to Ben’s head decided the outcome of the brawl and Anthony won the title.
The scores proved that Ben lost that bout by just an inch, the reason why the ‘Smooth Bendo’ has never forgotten the notorious kick. Ben in a recent interview even shared his thoughts that his heart cries and he will fight just one more time with Anthony
Henderson on February 25, 2012 entered the octagon to take on Frankie Edgar for the lightweight title and came out as the new champion. On the other hand, Anthony also entered in a bout on the same night against a submission specialist Joe Lauzon and came
The whole Saturday night scenario is being denoted by most critics as the making up of an arch rivalry which will soon witness both men fighting in the same octagon for the title.
It is this reason why Dana just replied, “I think he's going to get it. We'll see what happens. I hate to do this the night of the fights, and you guys know that, but you always ask me. We'll see what happens. I guess I'll leave you guys in suspense.”
Ben on the other hand was a bit heartfelt at the announcement and remarked, “I'm not trying to shoot anybody out of anything they deserve, but I had to do two immediate rematches, so what's fair?”
When Anthony was asked about clashing Ben, he simply reminded the people of the old rivalry and said, “I was supposed to get a title shot last year. We've got some unfinished business. Let's take care of it.”
So far, nothing is confirmed and both men might have to undergo at least two to three month medical rest.
