Dalglish wants new signings before it’s too late

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish admitted that he wanted to add new players to his squad before the end of the January transfer window. The top target on his list, Luis Suarez, seems to be too expensive at the moment, with Ajax demanding £21 million for the player. Frank de Boer, the Ajax coach, in an attempt to speed things up has given the English Premier League side until Saturday to finalize the deal.

At the same time the talks for Charlie Adam, the Blackpool midfielder; have not reached an agreement since the two clubs could not agree on a transfer fee. Liverpool barely registered a win over Fulham last night, after which Dalglish said he would prefer to bring in some new signings.

However, Dalglish realized that he did not have too much time and said he was not sure of how much money would be made available to him by the new owners. He said while speaking to reporters, “The finance is there. Everything is in place but it's difficult to get players out of other clubs at this time. If we do not get anyone it is not for the want of trying.”

The win over Fulham was Liverpool’s second successive win in the Premier League; it saw them climb to 7th place in the table. However, the Reds have a long way to go if they wish to qualify for the Champions League or even the second tier European competition, the Europa League, something they have grown accustomed to in the past season or two.

Dalglish admitted that his side were not up to their best against the Cottagers, he said after the match, “Fulham will be feeling a little hard done by because they will think they deserved something from the game. But there have been many games when we thought we deserved more from it than we got.”

Spanish striker Fernando Torres scored a goal at the start of the game, during the sixth minute, which was ruled offside. However, the Reds kept on trying and it was Torres’ strike in the 52nd minute which led to Fulham scoring an own goal, which awarded Liverpool the win. After the only goal of the game, Liverpool tightened their defense and claimed an important victory.

However, he was pleased with the win his side had secured along with the three points, he added, “The boys showed a great deal of determination and effort and it is great credit to them after a hard run of games. I think that type of victory has been a long time coming because we worked hard we got a little bit of good fortune.”
