Guernsey vs Bahrain: On the opening day of the tournament at Padang, Singapore, Guernsey thrashed Bahrain by nine wickets.
It was an embarrassing batting performance by the Bahraini contingent, who collapsed on a meagre 49 in just 13.5 overs, with Adnan Butt remaining the highest run getter with 15.
Jamie Nussbaumer, the medium pacer, remained the prominent bowler with 5 scalps. David Hooper also supported appreciably, grabbing 3 wickets in his solitary over.
In reply, Guernsey chased down the target in 12.5 overs for the loss of only one wicket. GH Smit fell after making 13 but Ross Kneller and Jeremy Frith ensured that his side ran out convincing winners .
Nussbaumer, for his impressive five-wicket haul was declared Player of the Match.
Argentina vs Malaysia: Malaysia, in their first match, beat Argentina by 47 runs (D/L method) at the Indian Association Ground.
Opting to bat first, the Malaysian side began briskly, courtesy the openers, who added a fifty-run stand inside 9 overs. The right-hander, Shafiq Sharif, further went onto score an imposing 61 despite the rest of the batting order, apart from Hiran Ralalage
(31), failed to contribute notably.
Malaysians folded their innings on 210 – their total further aided by the erect bowling performance by the Argentine bowlers, who conceded 39 extras.
Following a rain interruption, the game was reduced to 29 overs with Argentina being set a target of 162. However, their run chase was disrupted early on by three unfortunate run-outs, which reduced them to 63 for 4. From that point onward, the team was
never in the contest and eventually ended up on well short - 114 for 7.
Following his fine contribution with the bat, Ralalage also showed his all-round class by keeping things under check with tight bowling display - ending with impressive match figures of 6-2-16-1.
Shafiq Sharif was named as Player of the match for his outstanding batting.
Singapore vs Cayman Islands: In the second rain-hit contest of day 1,
Singapore beat Cayman Islands by 80 runs (D/L method) at Kallang Ground.
Singapore (batting first) received a decent opening start from openers, Chetan Suryawanshi(42) and Chaminda Kumarage (28), who shared 67 for the first wicket.
The partnership was then followed by useful contributions from the middle-order batsmen, who took the score to 141 for 3 in 34 overs before rain interrupted the proceedings.
On Resumption, Cayman were set 203 in 32 overs, but could only post 122 for 8. Conroy Wright’s unbeaten 48 was the only highlight of an otherwise poor batting display
Spinner, Mulewa Dharmichand, was the pick of the bowlers with 3 scalps in his 5 overs. Suryawanshi emerged the Player of the match for his vital contribution in the Singapore innings.
