  • Claudio Ranieri demands his Inter Milan side to “turn the tide”

The former AS Roma boss has asked his team to play to the best of their abilities against Marseille, and take some consolation from their abysmal season so far.

Claudio Ranieri is looking for positives in this nightmare of a season for Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri have been highly inconsistent this season, and the only bright point of the season was their seven-match winning streak which ended last month.

Since then, Inter Milan have slumped to a streak of five losses in their last six matches.

The highly volatile form of the Beneamata has seen them drop to seventh position on the Serie A standings. There has been increasing amounts of pressure on the San Siro outfit to change the current management.

Reports suggest that Ranieri might be heading for the exit door if the Nerazzurri fail to secure a win at the Stadio Velodrome. However, the veteran manager has brushed aside such rumours and said:

“I am not thinking about what could happen the day after tomorrow. I do not feel that I am at risk, even if there are some good... sponsors for my job. I’ll never ask the squad to play for me, but rather to play for the team they represent. I am always calm and have an excellent rapport with the President.”

The former Juventus boss has stated that the Champions League gives them an opportunity to bring some respectability to their performances. The 60-year-old is hopeful that his squad will rise up to the occasion and will perform much better in the last 16 round tie against Olympique de Marseille.

“This is an unusual season, as things went badly, then very well, now badly again, but the Champions League resumes and I’m sure we’ll do well,”

The Nerazzurri will travel to France for the first-leg on Wednesday, February 22.

The former Roma boss is looking for inspiration from his Dutch maestro, Wesley Sneijder, who recently recovered from an injury. However, the former Real Madrid star has still not gained full match fitness and his inclusion in Inter line-up has been the talking point in the media of late.
