Chelsea defender David Luiz says Fernando Torres needs one goal to strike form – EPL news

Chelsea centre-back David Luiz has come out in defence of teammate Fernando Torres and claimed that the Spaniard only needs one goal to come back to goal scoring ways.

Fernando Torres joined Chelsea in the January 2011 transfer window for an estimated fee of 50 million pounds from Liverpool. El Nino’s time at Stamford Bridge so far has been frustrating as the Spain international is yet to score his first goal for his new club in a total of seven appearances.

Luiz insisted that for any striker who moves to a new club, the first goal is the most important and difficult to come. He said that Torres is under huge amount of pressure and should be given some time to settle at his new club.

“It’s not just because he’s Fernando Torres but, for any forward, it’s really hard when they don’t score,” the defender was quoted as saying.

The Brazil international was all praise for El Nino and said the Spaniard puts in a lot of hard work in training. He said that Torres is a thorough professional and has been unlucky not to score in the seven games he has played for Chelsea.

Luiz rated his Spanish teammate as a very special player and said that whenever he scores his first goal, he will carry on with many more.

“We all see Fernando working hard, day by day, a really professional guy, such a kind man and a great personality. I am sure that, as soon as the first goal comes, he will score loads of them because Fernando is a very special player,” the Brazilian concluded.

David Luiz has been a brilliant signing for Chelsea. The defender has already put in some splendid performances for Chelsea and has also scored two crucial goals against Manchester United and Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Brazilian joined Chelsea in the January transfer window from Portuguese club Benfica in a 20-million-pound move and has replaced Branislav Ivanovic in the heart of Defence.
