Captain Darren Sammy puts his weight behind West Indian  youngsters

The West Indies Cricket team will be called into action soon when they will have to take on the Pakistan Cricket team in a Twenty20 series, starting on Thursday, April 21, 2011.

The Jamaicans will be hosting a tour at home and they will be going up against the squad that knocked them out of the quarterfinals in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011.

The two teams have a revamped roster, providing both nations with the opportunity to hone their skills and prepare for the next World Cup, which is scheduled in 2015.

The West Indies Captain, Darren Sammy, will be leading a roster that is young and unfamiliar with the international cricket standards.

Four newcomers will be coming to the stage with the West Indies and none of them have ever featured in an international game before.

Batsman – Danza Hyatt, Fast Bowler – Krishmar Santokie,  All Rounder – Christopher Barnwell and off spinner – Ashley Nurse will be the newcomers on the scene.

Despite the inclusion of new comers in the side, skipper Sammy believes in his players and that resonates well with the mentality of the squad.

"The squad is a well balanced one, full of youngsters who are eager and hungry to go out there and represent the West Indies," said Sammy.

Sammy has made it apparent that the young blood is no cause for concern and he is expecting a good contribution from them, when the right time comes.

"So what you will see is youngsters going out there with an opportunity to showcase what they have and make a statement."

"That's what you are going to see out there - energy and players playing for West Indies with heart and pride and passion.”

The flamboyant skipper claims to be looking forward to this season and vows that the squad will put their “best foot forward".

Though many think Pakistan are well favoured for the tour, there is the undeniable fact that West Indies hold a home advantage.

The first match against the visitors will be held at St. Lucia, today. It is important to note that the hosts will be without their seasoned stars; Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Sulieman Benn.
