C. C. Sabathia spends his holidays with the community

Born and raised in Vallejo, California, Carsten Charles Sabathia went back to his hometown for the holidays this Christmas. Spending most of his time with his relatives, the New York Yankees’ ace man led his foundation, ‘PitCCh’, across town in an effort to give back to the community. He launched a Christmas Caravan that made the right step to help people around the area.

"It's my hometown and my heart is always here," Charles Sabathia said. "I owe a lot to this city and the people here. It's a real small, tight-knit community. To be a part of it and be able to pitch for the Yankees, I'm able to show kids that I came from the same small city they came from and can try to do some good things."

Sabathia, along with his wife, Amber, helped remodel a nursery for a local foster care family unit, which is working with the district’s Youth and Family Services group and community volunteers. Sabathia also took part in a recent United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots event. He signed donated items for patients and later paid a visit to children whose parents were in the care of Vallejo Medical Centre.

The pitcher later, made his way to the paediatric ward where he distributed gifts. After that trip, Sabathia went on to host a barbecue event. He invited some volunteers from the Vallejo Youth and Family services to go out on a shopping trip in the market. Finally, Sabathia finished the week with a makeover of a home in the area serving as rehabilitation centre for women suffering from drugs and alcohol addiction.

Sabathia always had a good winter holiday season with his family, when he was a young boy. Spending time with his grandma, Ethel is something he remembers far too discreetly. The top pitcher was able to share some of the moments he enjoyed with his folks.

"I have a really big family, and I just remember getting together at my grandma's house - everybody being together, the food, opening presents, always playing music," Sabathia said. "I just remember it being a really happy time. With everybody in my family being around, you could look forward to seeing someone you hadn't seen for a long time during the holidays. My grandma's house was always the place for that."

The Sabathia family seems to be enjoying the holidays well. It comes as no surprise to see that as the challenge for playoffs is set to reignite in April.
