Bobby Jenks is not likely to pitch in spring training, says Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine
The Boston Red Sox current team manager has some different ways to tackle the situation compared to other Major League managers. Though he was one of the lead men to advocate relief pitcher Bobby Jenks’ contract extension but now
he has changed his mind to test Jenks’ in this year’s Spring Training. He has recently said in the media regarding Jenks as he will not be pitching in Arizona for some internal issues.
Valentine said, “Bobby said he’d like to take one week at a time. That means he’s a long way about thinking baseball activities. He’s really had a terrible offseason health-wise. He’s a real back-burner guy. I don’t think we’ll
see him in baseball activities for quite a while if at all this spring. He has had shoulder issues in the past where he’s come back too soon, He’s done the step-forward and two-step-back thing and we’re trying to prevent that from happening again. We’re trying
to get him to cruise on through. He’s not hurt, just trying to learn from the past.”
Jenks has been around for almost six years in the Major League Baseball but still never found an important role in any team. Previously he had played for Chicago White Sox. An interesting fact of his relation with team managers
also explains why he always ends up facing criticism from baseball experts. His arguments with his former manager Ozzie Guillen have also a pretty long story. While this time around he again faces some kind of dispute within the franchise and especially with
his manager Bobby Valentine.
Some experts also believe that he is a good player and if he resolves all issues with his coaches and managers, he will be a productive player for the team and even this attitude will also help his own game. For instance, if someone
looks at his past record with a critical eye, the first thing will come-up as he certainly an offensive player and further concentration can give him more stability towards excellence. The next season certainly will determine how he has learnt his past mistakes
and how he plans to improve upon them.
