Barisal Burners 192 v Duronto Rajshahi 193 - Rajshahi won by 9 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)
In the 19th match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, Duronto Rajshahi won their match against Barisal Burners by nine wickets on Monday, February 20, 2012, at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.
After winning the toss, Burners chose to bat first in a bid to post a humungous total on the board in the T20 game to subdue their opponents.
However, their plans went awry when they lost their first wicket with only one run on the board as, Brad Hodge, who had come to open the innings found his way back to the pavilion without scoring a run.
The demise of the opener, brought Phil Mustard in the middle sooner than he had expected, however, the batsman exhibited tremendous resolve as he forged a befitting partnership with opener, Ahmed Shehzad, by smacking the bowlers all around the park without a hint of remorse.
With 98 runs on the board, the side lost their second wicket when Shehzad was dismissed on 44 runs.
22-year-old, Mithun Ali, was the next man in, and in the meanwhile, Mustard spearheaded the batting onslaught by hammering almost every bowler that came in his way.
Later, the side managed to amass 192 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs, with Mustard standing unbeaten on a knock of 88 runs.
Needing 193 runs to win in 20 overs, Rajshahi openers Shahzaib Hasan and Junaid Siddique stole Mustard’s thunder as they incinerated Burners bowling line-up by launching a staggering batting attack.
With 93 runs on the board, the side lost their first and the only wicket of the match as Hasan found his way back to the pavilion after playing an innings of 46 runs.
It was then Siddique and number-three batsman, Marlon Samuels, who gave the fielding side a tough time by steering their squad to victory after playing unbeaten knocks of 89 and 54 runs as Rajshahi won the match in 17.1 overs.
Siddique was also named as the Player of the Match for his impressive show.
