Barcelona vs. Real Madrid – Super Copa – Match Review (Part 2)
As the match kicked off at the Nou Camp, Barcelona were the favourites to win the two legged tie. Mourinho’s men were able to impress throughout the first leg but with the Catalans having a two away goals advantage, the two legged tie was in Barcelona’s
The second leg was won 3-2 Barcelona as Lionel Messi scored a brace and ended the Super Copa final 5-4 on aggregate. The match was quite thrilling and ended up in a brawl but at the end of the day, Barcelona left the pitch as Super Copa Champions.
Real Madrid approached the game in the same way, making it difficult for the Spanish Champions to move the ball around. Barcelona, on the other hand, were quite direct in their approach as they tried to play long balls forward in order to make it to the
opposition penalty area.
Most of the game was being played in Barcelona’s half with the Catalans trying to pass their way through the Real Madrid players. Los Blancos were pressing high up the pitch so that the Catalans cannot have the possession for a long time.
The first blood was drawn by Barcelona. It was during the 15th minute when Lionel Messi gave a perfect through ball to Andres Iniesta. The Spaniard timed his run and went clear on goal. Iker Casillas came forward to make himself bigger but Andres
Iniesta easily scooped the ball over him and found the back of the net.
Despite dominating the game for the first few minutes, Real Madrid were still a goal down within fourteen minutes of the first half. However, an equalizer came soon.
Barcelona’s lead did not last for long as Real Madrid equalized during the 20th minute. Mesut Ozil played the ball deep from a corner kick and found Karim Benzema. The Frenchman tried to shoot the ball towards the goal; however, it deflected off
Cristiano Ronaldo and found the back of the net. Ronaldo celebrated after looking at the sideline referee, as he expected himself to be standing offside.
Real Madrid were back on track but with a 1-1 score line, Barcelona would still win the Super Copa. Real Madrid had to pressure further up the pitch in order to convert the tie in their favour.
Pedro Rodriguez tried to score from a curling shot but Iker Casillas was on his toes to save it. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo almost found the back of the net with his long ranged effort. Valdes saved the day for the Catalans as he deflected the
ball as it managed to hit the cross bar rather than finding the back of the net.
Just like the first leg, Lionel Messi repeated his goal scoring antics. The Argentinean maestro scored just before the half time whistle to make the score line 2-1. The best player in the world got a cheeky back heel pass from Gerard Pique, right inside
the 18 yard box.
Messi dribbled past the Real Madrid defence and did well to avoid Cristiano Ronaldo who was right behind him. After finding the space to shoot, he easily flicked the ball over Iker Casillas to find the back of the net.
