Barca stars reach Washington D.C.
The Spanish Champions won the Audi Cup final on Wednesday and were scheduled to play in America. Now, the Barcelona stars are in Washington D.C. to continue their preseason tour.
The Catalan Giants took a nine hours flight to reach the America and now they will start the nine day tour of America.
Barcelona played the Audi Cup final against Bayern Munich after beating the Brazilian side Internacional in the semi final. The semi final was won 4-2 on penalties while the final against Munich was won 2-0 with both the goals coming from the Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara.
After winning the Audi Cup final at the Allianz Arena in Munich, the Spanish Champions flew directly from Germany in order to reach Washington D.C. on time. The scheduling for the flight was quite tight; in fact, some of the fans and the Barcelona members had to abandon the match taking place in Munich in order to reach the airport on time.
A few first team players did not travel with the team because of the Copa America 2011. Daniel Alves and Lionel Messi were not present throughout the preseason and they will be joining the team on 8th August 2011.
On the other hand, the newly signed Barcelona star and the former Udinese player Alexis Sanchez was also not part of the team travelling to the United States of America. Sanchez has also played in the Copa America 2011 with the Chilean team and he is also to be rested till 8th of August 2011.
The plane arrived in Washington D.C. at 03:15 local time with squad and the press being the last passengers to get boarded.
All the squad members are going to have a long day. First, they are going to have a training session in order to get ready for a game against one of the best teams in the world – Manchester United. Barcelona will be facing the Red Devils on the first day of the tour as the English Champions are already in America and they have started their tour.
Manchester United’s game against MLS All Stars ended 4-0 in their favour with Dimitar Berbatov, Danny Welbeck, Ji Sung Park and Anderson scoring for the Red Devils.
Manchester United are now going to be a part of Barcelona’s preseason tour and both the teams are going to be facing each other soon. The Catalans are also going to be a part of the press conference which is going to present the fixture between the two great clubs who also came head to head in the final match of the UEFA Champions League 2010/2011.
The Catalan squad travelled through the Turkish Airlines and the name of the tour has been named “The Turkish Airlines US Tour 2011.”
The players enjoyed a lot of comfort on the plane and now they are going to be in America for nine days and then report to the Nou Camp as their preseason matches in America will finish off.
