Dhaka Metropolis 201/ 187 v Rajshahi Division 404
On Tuesday, December 20, 2011 Dhaka Metropolis scored 187 runs in their second innings against Rajshahi Division at Sylhet Stadium, on the third day of the four-day match between the two sides.
Earlier in the day, Rajshahi Division resumed their first innings on 355 runs for the loss of only two wickets in a bid to amass a massive tally on the board against their rivals.
Jahurul Islam (167) and Hamidul Islam (0) came out to bat for their side, hoping to punish the bowlers on the penultimate day of the contest.
However, disaster struck when on the first delivery of the day, Dhaka dismissed star batsman Jahurul without allowing him to score a run.
With 374 runs on the board, Rajshahi Division lost the services of Hamidul, who found his way back to the pavilion after playing a meagre knock of six runs.
Lower-middle-order batsman, Sabbir Rahman, then hammered a steady knock of 33 runs to help his side post a formidable tally of 404 runs, before the side declared their innings to give Dhaka batsmen a chance to face rubber from Rajshahi bowlers.
Dhaka, however, failed to get off to a flying start as they lost their first wicket with only 13 runs on the board when opener, Arman Hossain, fell after playing a short innings of 11 runs off 18 deliveries.
Middle-order batsman, Asif Ahmed then lost his wicket after scoring just four runs. At the time of his demise, Dhaka had posted only 17 runs on the board.
Opener, Mohammad Ashraful, then crafted a potent partnership with middle-order batsman Mehrab Hossain jnr, as they smashed 95 runs together in the 4th wicket-partnership.
The duo hammered the bowlers with great zeal and composure to subdue a resilient bowling attack, helping their side climb back in the match.
Ashraful, then lost his wicket after smashing a sensational innings of 69 runs, at the time of his departure the side had managed to post 143 runs on the board.
At stumps on the third day, Dhaka posted 187 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets, with Hossain jnr unbeaten on 61 runs and Marshall Ayub standing on a knock of 22 runs.
