Australia v Sri Lanka 2011: Tillakaratne Dilshan aiming to crush Australia in first Twenty20 – Cricket News Update
The Sri Lankan skipper, Tillakaratne Dilshan, has aimed high before the start of the crucial clash against Australia, saying that his side will look to kick off the series on a great note by trashing Kangaroos
in the first Twenty20 International, set to be played at Pallekele Cricket Stadium on Saturday, August 06, 2011.
With some new faces coming into the side, the Lankans are going through rebuilding process after ICC World Cup 2011. Although, the terrible memories of recent defeat at the hands of England are still fresh
in their minds, Dilshan wants his side to take a new beginning and register their first T20 win over Australia at home.
Even though, the final crew will be decided just a few moments before the play, the islanders are expected to take on Aussies with three regular spin bowlers. Furthermore, Dilshan and the veteran Mahela
Jayawardene will open the innings for the home side as they did on England tour.
Despite admitting the fact that the unavailability of the injured Lasith Malinga is a massive blow for the Lankans on Pallekele wicket which is expected to assist fast bowlers, the skipper hoped that the
young legs will do the trick for the side.
“We have to give opportunities for some of the younger players. We lost Murali that was a big loss too, but we managed to move forward without him. That’s the reality and you have to live with that, he
said. Now, Lasith is injured and I am sure another young player will take up that opportunity. If the players step up and deliver, rather than depending on one or two players, we can make the maximum from what we have,” said Dilshan.
Meanwhile, the Lankan opening batsman anticipated an exciting Twenty20 encounter on Saturday as both sides are well prepared to hammer each other.
“Both sides will have a good game I believe and both sides are balanced and the best team will win,” shared the blistering right-handed batsman who holds a strike rate of over-120 in the shorter version
of the game.
