Ask the Moon in top form works ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic at Churchill Downs
Trained by Martin D. Wolfson for owner Myron Miller, the 6-year-old mare is pointed toward the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic on 4 November, 2011, at Churchill Downs worked on the morning of 18 October in preparation of her next start.
The daughter of Malibu Moon, out of Always Asking by Valid Appeal, Ask the Moon has been stabled at Keeneland where the mare jogged a mile before breezing four furlongs in 48 seconds.
Martin Wolfson’s Keeneland assistant Heather Irion was given the responsibility to check on Ask the Moon as she bucked and played at the track before the breeze and felt real good as Heather stated that she did really well.
Ask the Moon was expected to do well in her last start when she ran in the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Santa Anita Park where she finished sixth, especially after winning back to back grade 1 races.
In the Lady’s Secret, Ask the Moon was up against some serious runners, the likes of Zazu and Ultra Blend, but she couldn’t find enough room throughout the race in the 1 1/16 mile long race on 1 October, 2011, as Zazu wrapped it up in 1 minute and 41.59
Ask the Moon registered her first win of the season in the Grade 1 Ruffian Stakes at Saratoga on 31 July, 2011, over at 1 1/8 miles on dirt.
She was able to come out good under J Castellano and covered the distance in 1 minute and 50.46 seconds, as Super Espresso and Payton d’Oro completed the top 3 order of finish, respectively.
The 6-year-old mare then showed some grit and didn’t back down in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign also at Saratoga over the classic distance of 1 ¼ miles under the same jockey J Castellano on 3 September, 2011.
Ask the Moon completed the distance in 2 minutes and 4.21 seconds, where she defeated Pachattack and Tiz Miz Sue, who finished second and third, respectively.
The mare was claimed for $75,000 in June at Belmont Park, and then after she landed the Ruffian and the Personal Ensign.
