Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas warns Jack Wilshere of burnout – Premier League news
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has advised his young 19-year-old teammate Jack Wilshere that playing too much football at such a young age could prove dangerous to his career.
Wilshere, who has already made 40 appearances for the Gunners, is expected to be part of England’s Under-21 team which will play in the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark.
Fabregas used micro-blogging website Twitter to warn Wilshere against the burnout. He said, “At 23 I’m very proud to achieve that but is also dangerous at this age to play that much. Telling u Jack.”
Fabregas’ advice came after Jack Wilshere publicly declared that he wanted to represent England in the Under-21 Championship. However, the English midfield prodigy now seems to have put himself in the club versus country battle.
Wilshere said, “It will only be good for my career. If you look at the Germans, they won the Under-21 tournament and the following year they went to the World Cup and did well. It is important to start winning international tournaments early and get it into you and hopefully you can take it onto the world stage. Stuart Pearce, Fabio Capello and Arsene Wenger will talk about it and see what is best for me.”
However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger does not want to risk Jack Wilshere despite the enormous amount of interest shown by England manager Fabio Capello and Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce, who are desperate to play the 19-year-old in the Championship.
Jack Wilshere has been a revelation at Arsenal in the ongoing 2010-11 season and his extraordinary performances for the club have earned him recognition on the national level. England team manager Capello is a huge admirer of Wilshere and the Three Lions boss handed him his first England cap in a friendly against Hungary in August 2010.
Moreover, the Arsenal midfielder became one of the youngest players to start for England in a competitive match when he started against Wales recently. Wilshere, who has become a vital member of the Arsenal first team, has already earned four England caps at such a young age.
