  • Arjen Robben upset with groin injury

The Bayern Munich star missed Netherlands’ 2014 World Cup qualifier game against Hungary due to an injury, and has now expressed extreme disappointment to sit out in his side’s 4-1 win.

Arjen Robben has expressed his frustration over picking up a groin injury just before Netherlands’ 2014 World Cup qualifier match against Hungary at Stadium Puskas Ferenc on September 11.

The 28-year-old attacker, who started his professional career at FC Groningen in the 2000/01 season, has voiced his disappointment, and has admitted that he was not 100 percent match fit following the Oranje’s 2-0 win over Turkey on September 7.

“It's obviously very disappointing. I already wasn't fully match fit after the match versus Turkey, but I thought I would be alright. Nevertheless, I then felt pain in my groin while warming up. I am really disappointed”, Robben was quoted as saying to NUsport.nl.

Although, the extent of the former Chelsea and Real Madrid forward’s injury is yet to be exactly known, it seems unlikely that the highly-rated winger will be featuring in Bayern Munich’s upcoming German Bundesliga fixture against FSV Mainz at Allianz Arena on September 15.

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, will also be sweating after watching Robin van Persie taken off from the pitch at half-time in the Flying Dutchmen’s 4-1 win over Hungary.

The former Arsenal talisman took a heavy challenge to his thigh from Roland Juhasz, and was replaced by the Schalke hit-man, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, during the half-time break.

Louis van Gaal, the Oranje head coach, has stressed that he only substituted the lanky striker for precautionary measures, while insisting that the injury does not seem to be very serious.

“We took off Robin for precautionary measures. It doesn't seem to be too serious, but you never know. We didn't want to take any risks”, the former Bayern Munich boss was quoted as saying to SBS 6.

It seems unlikely that the 29-year-old striker, who moved to Old Trafford in the recently concluded summer transfer window after netting 96 goals in close to 200 league appearances for Arsenal, would be featuring in the Red Devils’ upcoming English Premier League clash against Wigan Athletic on September 15.
