Angelica Muyrong and Flo Lamigo surge into quarter-finals of the 2011 Goal Pilipinas - Bingo Bonanza

Philippine’s Angelica Muyrong and Flo Lamigo have entered into the Women’s Singles Under-19 quarter-finals after beating their opponents in the round-of-16 matches of the 2011 Goal Pilipinas – Bingo Bonanza event, held at Bacolod, Philippines, on Thursday, June 2.

Angelica defeated Angela Malata in a two-set match, whereas, Lamigo thrashed Shaina Althea Osorio in straight games by playing top quality badminton.

In the quarter-final matches, Angelica will play against Ma Bianca Ysabel Carlos, who is the top seed, whereas, Lamigo will be up against Ma Victoria Vizmonte.

In her round-of-16 match, Angelica played a remarkable game against Malata, who could not manage to meet the level of her opponent. In the start of the match, Malata threw away many points by playing a confused game. On the contrary, Angelica played to her full potential and won the first-set in only 9 minutes, by a convincing difference of 21-13.

The second-set was identical to the previous one, as Angelica remained miles ahead of Malata. She was playing on a different level when compared to her rival, who failed to produce a good game. Angelica clinched the set in only 8 minutes with a 21-13 score. The match ended in 17 minutes with a 21-13 and 21-13 margin.

In another match, Lamigo took 20 minutes to defeat Shaina in straight- sets. In the first-set, both players worked well by playing superb badminton in front of the local crowd. The match became more interesting as the score proceeded towards the ending moments of the game. A spirited Lamigo became aggressive in the concluding phase of the opening set and managed to win it by a 21-16 margin, in 10 minutes.

In the second-set, it was Shaina who played better in the start and managed to take a two-point lead. However, Lamigo levelled the score by increasing the pace of the rallies. She employed a variety of shots and beat her opponent in the second game with a reasonable difference of 21-15, in 10 minutes. The match ended up with a 21-16 and 21-15 score on the board.
