Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia: Khan vows he will not repeat mistakes
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan ensured fans of not repeating mistakes he committed against Lamont Peterson last year in December.
Amir Khan will be taking on Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The fight will be a title unification bout, with Garcia’s WBC light welterweight title and the vacant WBA light welterweight title on the line.
“I know that I made a lot of mistakes in there. At times, I took shots when I didn't have to stand in there and take shots. But I've just put it behind me now. The truth is out there now. I fought someone who was on illegal substances,” said Khan who is
furious over Lamont Peterson for taking illegal substance for the fight.
Speaking particularly about Peterson’s failed drug test, Khan remarked, “What got to me was not having the chance to win my titles back and to have a chance to set things straight. I would have definitely changed a lot of things from the first Peterson fight.”
It should be noted here that Khan has notified that he might face Peterson after defeating Danny Garcia, only if he is sure Peterson is not on drugs anymore.
Khan was scheduled to take on Lamont Peterson on May 19 at the Mandalay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. However, since Peterson failed a random drug test in April, the fight was cancelled just two weeks before. Khan had trained hard for the fight and Peterson’s
news came as a shock to him.
Soon after the match was cancelled, Khan signed to fight against Danny Garcia on July 14. Now, since the WBA has stripped Peterson off the title, just the WBA title, Khan is excited to unify the titles once again.
It should be noted here that the IBF has yet to rule over the situation. Chances are that Peterson will be stripped off the IBF title as well.
